Who it helps

Somatic trauma therapy

Slow, body-based skills for adults who want steadier ground before, between or instead of a block.

Somatic work pays attention to the body as well as the story: where you look, how you breathe, how your shoulders and hands feel as you talk. Lan has training in somatic approaches to trauma, and teaches the skills plainly, so you can use them on your own.

Who it suits

  • Adults getting ready for a block

  • Adults between blocks who want something to practice

  • Adults who prefer to go slowly, or not to talk through the past

What it looks like

What a session looks like

Fifty minutes, and nothing you have to relive.

  • 01

    Check in

How the days have been, and what you want from today.

  • 02

    Practice one skill

One thing to try in the room: orienting, a slower breath, or a way to feel your feet.

  • 03

    Take it home

A short practice for the days ahead, written down.

What it is not

What this is not

  • Not without risks

EMDR can bring strong feelings and memories, during a block and after it. Lan explains the risks in the preparation call, and you can stop at any point.

  • Not a crisis service

Fathom does not answer messages around the clock. If you are in crisis, call or text 988. In an emergency, call 911.

  • Not a replacement for medical care

Body symptoms can have medical causes. We ask you to talk with your doctor about anything physical.

Pace and cost

Length, frequency and how it is paid

  • Fifty minutes

Weekly, every other week or monthly. Your clinician sets the pace with you.

  • In person or by video

In Anchorage, or by video when you are in Alaska at the time.

  • How it is paid

Fees are on the fees page, with a written estimate before you start.

Questions

Three questions about this

What happens in the preparation call?

It is a 50-minute call by phone or video, before any trauma work. We talk about what a block asks of you, what supports you have, and the risks, and you decide how much of your history to share. At the end we decide together whether a block fits, and when.

How long is a block, and how many will I need?

A block is three hours, with breaks. Some people book blocks weeks apart and some on back-to-back days. Your clinician sets the pace with you after the preparation call, and there is no set number of blocks. Weekly or monthly 50-minute sessions are an option too.

Are you licensed where I live?

Lan and Emmett are licensed in Alaska. We see you in person in Anchorage, or by video when you are in Alaska at the time of the session. If you live in another state and will not be in Alaska, we can't see you, and we are glad to help you find someone.
